San Diego is the second-largest city in California, and the seventh largest in the United States. The San Diego region has a population of just over 3 million people as of January 2005, which makes it the third largest County in California (Los Angeles and Orange Counties are numbers 1 and 2 respectively). The County has 18 incorporated cities as well as the unincorporated areas. The incorporated cities include: Carlsbad, Chula Vista, Coronado, Del Mar, El Cajon, Encinitas, Escondido, Imperial Beach, La Mesa, National City, Oceanside, Poway, San Diego City, San Marcos, Santee, Solana Beach and Vista. The City of San Diego has the largest number of residents in the County numbering around 1.3 million, which is about 43% of the total population.
