The Normal Heights community is located in Central San Diego County, California, and falls within the 92116 Zip code. Communities adjacent to Normal Heights include Kensington to the east, University Heights to the West, City Heights to the South, and Serra Mesa to the north.

Normal Heights was named after the San Diego Normal School, which later became San Diego State University. The community is centrally located near popular attractions such as Downtown San Diego, Balboa Park, San Diego State University, and the San Diego Zoo. The community is easily accessible via Interstate 8, 805 or 15.

From a thinly populated agricultural region in the late 1800s, Normal Heights rapidly expanded after the completion of the trolley line. Bertran J. Carteri was one of the early inhabitants of Normal Heights and greatly influenced the community’s growth. A carpenter by trade, Mr. Carteri was personally responsible for building many of the first single-family bungalows in this community. The Carteri Center on Adams Ave was originally built by Mr. Cateri, and is now under consideration as a potential historic district.

Normal Heights is a charming suburb with beautiful streets that are adorned with well-manicured lawns. There are three major neighborhoods within Normal Heights– Adam North, Adams Park and Cherokee.
