El Cajon is also famous for its age-old tradition of the Mother Goose Parade held on the Sunday before Thanksgiving every year. The Parade, which originated in 1947 is the largest of its kind in San Diego County and attracts up to 400,000 visitors each year.

El Cajon has a thriving business community. The community has several business centers that provide employment for its residents. Many companies enjoy a strong manufacturing base in the community. El Cajon has also seen several redevelopment projects that are set to further boost the local economy. For shopping enthusiasts, Parkway Plaza, a Westfield shopping mall, houses more than 190 stores and 15 restaurants.

The community’s elementary and middle schools are part of the Cajon Valley Union School District.
